Customer case: Equi Alert
Thomas Moons | Founder | Equi Alert
Technology for safe horse transport
Equi Alert develops technological solutions that promote safety and comfort in equestrian sports. For founder Thomas Moons, innovation is not an end in itself, but a means to develop practical products that make a real difference for horse and rider. When developing a new camera system for horse trailers, Equi Alert collaborated with Intemo.
Safety as a starting point
When transporting horses, it is important to monitor the animal’s welfare as well as the situation around the trailer. But for a long time, that possibility was limited in the trailer market. While horse trucks already use camera systems as standard, there was no accessible, functioning solution for horse trailers.
Equi Alert saw an opportunity. The aim was to develop a camera system that is easy to install, works reliably and gives owners real-time visual information during transport. Not as a complicated technical solution, but as a practical tool that directly contributes to safety on the road.
From concept to marketable product
The idea was clear, but translating it into a scalable and marketable product required more than just a concept. “It’s easy to say how something should work,” Thomas explains, “but it also needs to be technically correct, be producible and, above all, user friendly.”
Equi Alert was therefore looking for a partner who could contribute ideas about technology choices, feasibility and the steps towards creating a retail-ready end product. Reliability was crucial here: the system always had to work, even in changing conditions.
Adapted and developed together
The camera system used by Equi Alert already existed in its basic form. Together with Intemo, however, this product was fully adapted to the specific requirements of horse transport. In collaboration with an established manufacturer, the system was technically developed, tested and optimised for convenience, reliability and scalability.
Intemo supported this process by testing technical choices for feasibility and cost, and by structuring the development process. Each functionality was analysed: what adds real value for the user, and what makes the product unnecessarily complex? The first generation was soon developed further, including greatly improved battery life as a key market requirement.
Experienced, honest and transparent
According to Thomas, Intemo’s strength lies mainly in experience and transparency. “There are many parties who say: we can do that. But Intemo is very clear about what is and isn’t possible. That honesty prevents problems later in the process.”
This experience also made the development process faster and more efficient. Existing knowledge, supplier relationships and insight into production allowed important steps to be accelerated. “We were able to take shortcuts that as a start-up you wouldn’t otherwise discover until much later.”
Even when scaling up, Intemo remains an important partner. As the numbers grew, it became increasingly important that production, quality and risks were properly secured. “It gives us peace of mind that Intemo can manage that, allowing us to focus on growth and market development.”
A partnership that grows with you
For Thomas, the collaboration between Equi Alert and Intemo feels like a partnership. Not just because the product has been developed together, but because there is room to look ahead. “We understand each other better and better: where we want to go and what it takes to actually make that happen.”
For Equi Alert, which is focused on further upscaling and international growth in the coming years, this is essential. “Intemo is a reliable long-term partner for us. They contribute ideas, stay involved and do what they promise.” Or as Thomas summarises it: a partner who makes technology understandable, keeps choices sharp and helps market ideas successfully.
